The Latest Developments...

Haitian Redevelopment and The SLDI Code™

The earthquakes in Haiti brought disaster of epic proportions to a country that was already in a state of extreme crisis. The challenge to rebuild a sustainable infrastructure for Haiti calls out for a model of decision-making that is designed to deliver on the promise of a sustainable future from the triple-bottom-line perspective of social, environmental and economic impact.

The SLDI Code is that universal model. Through the holistic, triple-bottom-line, balanced perspective that is maintained through the SLDI Code system, following are just a few of the Haiti redevelopment programs that emerge.

Urban Cyber-village Model

Urban Cyber-village PlanTo encourage quality residential development downtown, SLDI member Rick Harrison of RHSD Site Planning, designed a model urban cyber-village plaza that would be located directly across from the Palace of Justice in downtown Port au Prince.

This cutting-edge neighborhood elevates the standard for urban living and is a seed that brings innovation to spur sorely needed economic stability and growth to urban Haiti.

Rural Silvopasture Model

SilvopastureSLDI member Charles Venator has developed a silvopasture best practices education and land management model for rural Haiti that increases forestry/grazing economic returns for private Haitians and simultaneously regenerates Haitian forests and soils for future generations.

Haiti Champion Tree Project

Champion Tree PartnershipThe mission of the Haiti Champion Tree Project is to help lead economic, environmental and social sustainability by protecting, propagating and planting a living legacy of the remaining native Champion Trees throughout the country. The natural bond people throughout the world have with these iconic trees provides public relations opportunity that can drive further development while helping restore a vital ecosystem at the same time.

SLDI and The Lost Symbol

Dan Brown’s new book, The Lost Symbol is the fastest selling adult novel of all time. The Lost Symbol (and the movie, which is already scheduled for release in 2012) is guaranteed to cause a tremendous and lasting groundswell of public interest in the book’s subject matter – which intertwines the history of Washington D.C., the secrets and symbols of Freemasonry, and the hidden meaning of George Washington’s life - each of which have deeply rooted connections to land development.

The Lost Symbol connects the meaning of George Washington’s life to the achievement of our human potential as creators on earth. Now this is something to which we in land development can relate and aspire! Interestingly, SLDI made that very same connection almost four years ago. As first written in the December 2005 Land Development Today magazine article by SLDI entitled Breaking New Ground,

“When you look at the history of our industry in America, one is hard pressed not to conclude that George Washington, the Father of our Country, also grew to become what can only be described today as the Father of our own land development industry, as well as a visionary prophet of sustainability.”

Now, once again following the visionary philosophy of George Washington, SLDI is pleased to be able to disclose the world’s first sustainable land development best practices system – The SLDI Code™.

The SLDI Code

The SLDI Code

The SLDI Best Practices System is symbolized as a geometrical algorithm that balances and integrates the triple-bottom line needs of people, planet and profit into a holistic, fractal model that becomes increasingly detailed, guiding effective decisions throughout the community planning, financing, design, regulating, construction and maintenance processes while always enabling project context to drive specific decisions.

A Note from our Executive Director

In answer to the worldwide call for sustainable development to combat our current financial, environmental and social crises, I want to share with you some of the initiatives that Sustainable Land Development International (SLDI) is now launching, and to ask you to participate with our developer-led and member-owned technology and information resource organization to transform the industry that creates the very infrastructure of our civilization.

 Time Magazine Cover
Sustainable development has been identified as the #1 idea for the next hundred years by Time magazine. SLDI is now developing and delivering practical solutions to some of the most important social, environmental and economic issues we face today. Sustainable development starts with our global infrastructure. If it is unsustainable, ultimately nothing else can be.

The products and services SLDI is ramping up to deliver include distributed clean energy technology, green building technology, ecosystem restoration and carbon sequestration technology, soil enhancement technology, water purification and retention technology, sustainable land development best practices systems, consulting services, certification programs, market feasibility reporting technologies, project management technologies, and others. What’s more, SLDI already owns the land development industry’s leading comprehensive outreach magazines, newsletters and educational events.

At SLDI, we understand the distrust between many industry professionals, as well as from the public at large. Our intent is to deliver the highest levels of transparency, so people from all perspectives can understand our motivations and philosophies as thoroughly as possible. As such, we will likely provide much more information than most will review, but we believe it's far better to err on the side of disclosure.

Our SLDI mission and "sustainable land development definition" at the top of our home page is the place to start. It indicates the uniquely holistic and comprehensive perspective from which we operate. This holistic perspective is absolutely essential  to overcome the misunderstandings of the past, and to align seemingly divergent interests toward a common vision that enables all to achieve their objectives in the future.

From there, I encourage you to give the following foundational reference articles, and the new SLDI introductory strategic plan PowerPoint video presentation below your most serious attention.

If you and/or your organization are seeking opportunity to achieve a more sustainable future with a strategically positioned global market-maker, then we are looking to cooperate and partner with you and your organization. We are now seeking strategic partnerships with industry-related first-movers to transform the way we do business – and to deliver on the promise of providing lasting value for our civilization.

Welcome to Sustainable Land Development International!

Sincerely,

Terry Mock Signature
