ASHEVILLE, North Carolina (June 16, 2008) — Sustainable Land Development International executive director Terry Mock will give a presentation at the Mountain Green 2008 Annual Sustainability Conference at Warren Wilson College in Asheville, North Carolina on June 25th entitled “Sustainable Land Development is an Intentional Paradox” - promoting and enabling land development around the world that balances the needs of people, planet and profit – for today and future generations.
Terry Mock is a university-trained land developer with over three decades of experience and who was elected president of a major environmental non-profit group in 1987. He is committed to balancing the concerns of a variety of stakeholder interests and is currently personally planning a sustainable development overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the largest old growth forest remaining on the southern coast of Oregon.
Mock believes that, “As a part of nature, humans have the capability to be a positive evolutionary force and to learn from and influence the natural world around us, for the benefit of society today, as well as for future generations of all species.”
Margo Nottoli Flood is Director of the Warren Wilson Environmental Leadership Center which is evolving into a model of sustainability in higher education where students work, study and serve in a learning community that walks its environmental talk. As students translate classroom theory into the practices that have earned Warren Wilson’s distinction as a living laboratory of sustainability, they discover they do have the power to change the world. “What makes Warren Wilson unique,” reveals Flood, “is that sustainability is not just a concept, or a major, it’s a measure of our practices and an expression of our principles.”
